Maybe too often racers look at a TT result and weigh it over the skill and timing of a great crit win or road race finish. If it’s a TT performance you’re looking for. It can be found at VOS this year with Ryan Pinney leading the way with a blazing pace that took overall victory. The road race played out as usual with a major climb trimming a lead group into ones and twos for the remainder of the race. Pinney yielded to the climbing speed of David Berling who took the RR victory.

Crits can be an interesting event at the end of an omnium. Leaders want to maintain their advantage, competitors want to advance their place, while everyone is going for a win or sprint for a prime. Often the recipe creates a large pack with the omnium leaders pulling back attacks when necessary or simply waiting for the final lap to sprint for a win. As it would play out Omar Duran accelerated for the line with a perfectly timed sprint to notch his belt with a VOS crit win. Pinney was a close second.
