When sitting on the start line of the Pensacola Cycling Classic every racer has something hanging on their mind. Could be results from their last race, how they might handle an early attack from a competitor or simply anticipating the frantic start that is likely to happen in the next few minutes. I can’t speak for H3 competitor and Scotland native Kenny Harriott. Although I believe for him, it could have been more cerebral then the above thoughts. Kenny has won his class in every multi day event this year including the Alaska Challenge. Pensacola could be the exclamation point to end a perfect season. If this added additional pressure, it didn’t show. A great time trial opened a large enough gap between him and the competition so that all he had to do is mark David Mayo in the road race and crit to win the weekend for H3’s. David Mayo and PVA Racing’s Josh Sharpe came in 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Brian Muscarella raced fast in H2’s. He started well in the time trial and never looked back. Brian also won last week’s event Tour de LaFrance. Greg Taylor, Aaron Roux and Gerald Cuzick kept it close but found themselves contesting for a 2nd and 3rd podium spot.
The closest race of the weekend was found in H4 between two PVA Racing Team members. Gerard AhFook and National Criterium Champion Ryan Pinney had only 3 seconds separating them by the end of the weekend. Pinney grabbed a 3 second edge leading into the crit and with a white knuckled grip held on for the win. AhFook took 2nd with Cody Goss in 3rd.
The Women’s division was won overall by PVR Racing’s Tammy Landeen. Her fiery performance received much attention as she compiled the best times for both the WH3 and WH4 classes. Tammy won 1st in WH4 , Thea Rosa happily rolled to 2nd overall while Pittsburgh Steel Wheeler Ashli Molinero ran 3rd. Carie Finale claimed 1st in WH3.
Omar Duran took 1st for United States Military Endurance in H5 while PVA Racing’s Emanuel Herrera won the recumbent division.
