No Hiding on Race Day

We are very nearly there, Clermont.

The Top End Euro – American Handcycle Championship kicks off the North American Para-cycling Points Series for 2016. Courses that for the most part are either going up one side of a hill or down the other side may have racers questioning if they are in the right state. Florida’s flat reputation will forever be noted by participants with an astrix* but then there is Clermont! Hills that are punchy and short will make drafting a non-factor for most and for others holding on to a wheel will be for pacing sake rather than aero benefit. There will be no hiding on this race day.

The early registrations list shows great athletes in all categories. Mark Ledo will lead a large contingent of riders from Canada. “French connection” Stephane Massard and overall favorite Narce Ludovic combined with Dutchman Tim de Vries will add European character. Team Paralyzed Veterans Racing will be present with Para-Triathlon World Champion Carlos Moleda and World Cup medal winner Will Groulx. The field is rounded out with racers that include Alfredo De Los Santos David Randall, Alex Hyndman, Kenny Harriott and David Mayo.

This is a race that could be blown apart early under the pressure that de Vries and De Los Santos can put on the field. It will take early communication and strategy to keep a fast rider like Ludovic nailed down. Mark Ledo always seems to be in early season form. It’s only February on the calendar but the race is already having a mid-summer feel to it.

Up next on the calendar is Valley of the Sun ,February 13th and 14th. Be there for hot winter racing
