Reno Named Stop on New Handcycle Race Series

The City of Reno was awarded financial support from U.S. Paralympics, a division of the United States Olympic Committee, via a generous grant from the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation. The grant funding is designed to provide more domestic handcycling competition opportunities for individuals with spinal cord injuries. In addition to the competitions, the grant funding from the Neilsen Foundation also enables each race organizer to host a learn-to-handcycle clinic. Through the clinics, athletes will learn more about the sport, hone their skills, and get a real hands-on experience with trained coaches and athletes. All of the clinics are free and open to all interested handcyclists. For more information about the race and clinic in Reno, please contact April Wolfe at or [email protected].

Event Dates:

Friday, June 10—Tour de Nez Para-Cycling Time Trial

Since 2006, some of the strongest athletes at the Tour de Nez have cycled on three wheels and pedaled their bikes with race-hardened arms. As the Tour de Nez has grown popular for its time trials and fast-paced circuit races, some of the top para-cyclists in the nation have been in the thick of the competition. This year’s event will include a 14 mile time trial (2, 7mile laps) in Cold Springs on Friday, June 10 and a downtown Reno criterium on Saturday, June 11. The Tour de Nez is friendly to riders of all abilities with past participation ranging from first time racers to Paralympic team members.
