The Redlands Bicycle Classic along with Loma Linda University Health PossAbilities would like to formally invite you to participate in the PossAbilities Para-cycle Race Series in conjunction with the 32th Annual Redlands Bicycle Classic in Redlands, CA, April 7, 2016 through April 10, 2016. The following is important information regarding the race. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thank you again for supporting the 32th Annual Redlands Bicycle Classic! Funding is available for athletes with spinal cord injuries to offset some participation expenses. To qualify, an athlete must: have a spinal cord injury, be a U.S. citizen, and be one of the first 50 to register for the event. Athletes may receive funding for up to three events. PossAbilities Para-cycle Circuit Road Race (ALL CLASSES)
Start at Sunnyside Drive north of Oak Glen Rd., Yucaipa
Distance: 1.7 mile loop for 12 laps (20.4 mile max)
Start Time: 9:00 am

Friday, April 8 – Stage 2
PossAbilities Para-cycle Time Trial (ALL CLASSES)

Start at Greenspot Rd. at Santa Paula Street, Highland
Distance: 5.3 miles
Start Time: 10:30 am

Saturday, April 9 – Stage 3
PossAbilities Para-cycle Criterium (Class H & recumbent only) LONG COURSE
Start at Citrus Avenue, Downtown Redlands
Distance: 1.0 mile circuit for 30 minutes
Start Time: 1:30 pm

Sunday, April 10 – Stage 4
PossAbilities Para-cycle Criterium (Class H & recumbent only) SHORT COURSE

Start at Citrus Avenue, Downtown Redlands
Distance: .65 mile circuit for 30 minutes
Start Time: 3:05 pm

Race registration must be completed ONLINE, and IN ADVANCE. PROOF OF A CURRENT USA CYCLING LICENSE IS REQUIRED. Go to http://www.usacycling.org/buy-a-license.htm.

**MANDATORY** TECHNICAL MEETING:
There will be a mandatory technical meeting on Wednesday evening, April 6, at 6:00 p.m.

This meeting is mandatory for all cyclists. If you will not be racing in Thursday’s time trial but will race in any other races, please arrive in plenty of time the day of your first race to get checked-in. If you are racing on Thursday but can’t make the Wednesday night meeting, PLEASE EMAIL US to let us know you will not be in attendance. Our goal is to get you checked-in and all of your questions answered Wednesday night, in order to make things easier for you on race day!

HELMETS ARE REQUIRED for participation in any and all events. UCI HELMET COLORS BY CLASS WILL BE ENFORCED.

PRIZE MONEY
1st place = $500                         2nd place = $400                              3rd place = $300
Prize money will only be paid for the following race categories containing a minimum of 3 participants in each relative category on all race days. Para-cycling categories are: B, C, H, T, and our addition of recumbent. The total prize purse distributed over all categories will be $12,000.

Payouts will be mailed out within 90 days after the race. A completed & signed W-9 will be required in order for prize winners to receive their payout. PLEASE NOTE: Only cyclists that pay for and compete in all days of racing in their relative class are eligible for prize money.

START INFORMATION
All riders must check in with the para-cycle race director 30 minutes prior to race start. Riders should arrive at the start line at least 15 minutes before their designated start. Riders will start at 30 second intervals for the time trial. If a rider does not start at the appropriate time, the clock will start and will continue to run with or without the rider starting from the designated starting block. Riders who miss their designated start will be started as soon as possible after they arrive at the starting block.

START ORDER
The time trial start order will be provided to racers at the technical meeting on Wednesday night.

Athletes are responsible for booking rooms independently. Rooms are limited. You may request a handicapped room, but they are available on a first come, first serve basis.

TRAVEL STIPENDS
Stipends will be paid to all athletes to register and compete in their respective categories. Registration must be paid online prior to the race. All recipients of stipends will be required to complete and sign a W-9 in order to receive a check for travel stipends. Stipends will be mailed out within 90 days after the race.

AIR/GROUND TRANSPORTATION
Athletes are responsible for their own air/ground transportation. Shuttles will not be provided.

MEALS
Meals are the responsibility of the athlete.

AWARDS
There will be an award ceremony within an hour after each stage race. Please be present for awards. One finisher medal will be given to all athletes that do not podium.

INDIVIDUAL RACE INFORMATION
Yucaipa Road Race – Thursday, April 7   All classes
Location: Start at Sunnyside Dr., north of Oak Glen Road in front of the Community Center, Yucaipa, CA
Start Time –  9:00 am
Distance: 1.7 mile loop for 12 laps (20.4 mile max)
Course –  Residential streets/commercial road

Course
Course is approximately 1.7 miles long combining residential streets and a commercial road. There is a slight climb for the first 300 ft. then it flattens out until the first right hand turn on Fir Ave. The course will run counterclockwise. Once on Fir Ave. there will be a steady climb until Bryant Ave. This climb averages about 4-5%. Turn left on Bryant Ave. which will remain fairly flat until the left turn on Sunnyside Dr. Speeds will pick up substantially due to the fast downhill section that extends through Summerwood Drive. Be careful making that sharp right turn at Summerwood Dr.! Speeds will still be fast until past Hollyoak Way. A short steady climb will take you back to the start of the loop.

Highland Time Trial – Friday, April 8   All classes
Location: Start at Greenspot at Santa Paula Street, Highland
Start Time – 10:00 am
Distance – 5.3 miles
Course – Round-about course

Course
Course is a challenging climb up Greenspot Rd. Approximately 1.4 miles is a steady 3% climb until you make a hard right hand turn and the next 2,500 meters levels out until you reach the turnaround point. The return is just a repeat in reverse until you arrive at the finish line. Parts of this course are very rough with cracks and patches on the asphalt road especially along the long descent approaching the turnaround point. Make sure you take this into consideration when selecting equipment for this race as you will have to deal with the rough patches on your way back up.

Redlands Downtown Long Criterium – Saturday, April 9  (Class H & recumbent only)
Location –Downtown Redlands at Citrus Ave., Redlands, CA
Start Time – 1:30 pm
Distance – 1 mile loop for 30 minutes
Course – Fast and technical course

Course
1 mile criterium circuit with 7 right hand turns. Technical with wide roads. All cyclists will race together, but will be scored in separate race categories. Every racer will finish on the overall winners lap…regardless of laps completed to that point.

To be announced at the Orientation Meeting on April 6, 2016.

Awards
There will be an awards ceremony (near the start line) for all para-cycle race categories. This will take place immediately following the conclusion of the time trial. Note: The RBC does a great job with podiums, so please be present for this!
Redlands Downtown Criterium – Sunday, April 10 (Class H & recumbent only)

Location – Downtown Redlands at Citrus Ave., Redlands, CA
Start Time – 3:05 pm
Distance – .65 mile loop for 30 minutes
Course – Fast and technical course

Course
.65 mile criterium circuit with 5 right hand turns. Technical with wide roads. All cyclists will race together, but will be scored in separate race categories. Every racer will finish on the overall winners lap…regardless of laps completed to that point.

Para-cycle and Pro race awards will immediately follow the conclusion of the Pro race. Please plan on attending.
